Steps

  1. 1. Export PNG or JPG from Canva

    Use the flattened download. Do not look for a way to upload the Canva document here.

  2. 2. Split the file

    Subject, text, and background become layers when the edges are clear. The 2K split is 5 credits.

  3. 3. Edit outside Canva

    Edit text, remove text, recolor (3 credits), or replace (4 credits). Save the project.

  4. 4. Download the PSD

    Open it in PhotoCraft or Photoshop. Nothing is written back to Canva.

What this is, and what it is not

Canva Magic Layers is Canva’s feature. This page does not document how Magic Layers selects objects, what it costs inside Canva, or which Canva file types it accepts. Those details were not part of the 21 October 2026 review. image-layered.app is not a Canva plugin, it does not sign into Canva, and it does not open a .canva file.

The job it does do: you export a PNG or JPG from Canva, upload that flat file, and split it into transparent layers. Then you can edit text, remove text, recolor, or replace a layer, save the project, and open the PSD in PhotoCraft or Photoshop. That is the alternative when the design file is stuck in Canva and you need a stack somewhere else.

Export from Canva, then split

Download the design as PNG or JPG. Keep it under 10 MB. Upload it on image to layers if you want the stack, or on poster to layers if the file is a poster. The split costs 5 credits at 2K and does not bill per layer. A guest can preview at 1K and cannot export that preview.

Canva text becomes pixels in the export. Edit text on this site types a new line into the layer’s box. It does not recover the Canva font, and it does not write the change back to the Canva doc. If the words must stay live in Canva, edit them in Canva. If you only have the export, type here or set the real font later in PhotoCraft.

When not to use this alternative

Do not use it to sync a Canva project. There is no round trip. Do not use it when you still have editable Canva text and only needed a copy change. Changing it in Canva is cleaner. Do not expect Magic Layers’ interface. You will see this site’s layer stack, not Canva’s.
