Image Layered

Comic panel to layers

Separate a comic or manga panel into layers

Comic panel to layers means splitting a single comic or manga panel into characters, speech bubbles, lettering, effects, and the background, so you can reletter, reuse characters, or adapt the panel to a new format.

For comic artists, webtoon creators, and translators who need to edit lettering or reuse art from a flattened page.

Drop an image to split it into layers

Separate the subject, text, and background, then move or resize any layer.

How it works

  1. 1. Upload a flat image. A poster, product shot, or AI picture.
  2. 2. Split into layers. Subject, text, and background come apart.
  3. 3. Edit and export. Move, recolor, or download PSD and PNG.
Free preview: 1 split per day at 1K, no sign-up. A full 2K split is 5 credits.

How it works

  1. 1

    Crop to one panel

Split a single panel at a time; full pages with many panels merge more.

  2. 2

    Split and find the text

Solo the bubble and lettering layers.

  3. 3

    Edit or remove text

Retype a line with Edit text or hide it with Remove text, then export.

Text and bubbles separate

Lettering and balloons often come back as their own layers, ready to retype or remove.

Characters for promotion

Pull a character out of a panel for social posts, covers, or merch mockups.

Vertical reformatting

Rearrange panel elements when adapting a page to a vertical webtoon format.

Relettering and translation

Scanlation-style cleanup normally means painting out every line of text by hand. When a bubble separates from the art, you can hide the lettering layer and type new text on a clean balloon. Edit text retypes a line in a standard font; it does not recover the original hand lettering style.

See remove text from an image and edit text in an image for the text tools. Only translate and republish comics you have rights to.

Black-and-white manga and screentone

Manga with screentone separates less cleanly than color comics because tones blend figures and backgrounds. Characters with strong line art usually still come off as one piece. Sound effects drawn over the art often stay merged with it.

For color illustrations and covers, see illustration to layers.

When not to use it

  • Hand lettering style is not recreated when retyping.
  • Sound effects drawn into the art often stay merged.
  • Full multi-panel pages separate less cleanly than single panels.

Poster text editing

Title, date, and price are separate layers. Hide one or drag it.

Sample layers you can click, hide, and drag. Your own image is split in the editor.

Frequently asked questions

Can I translate a manga page with this?

You can remove and retype text on panels where the lettering separates. Respect the copyright of the work.

Does it keep the original font?

No. Edit text types into the layer with a standard font, not the original lettering.

Does it work on webtoon strips?

Crop to a section with one scene. Very tall images are resized to fit the 10 MB and resolution limits.

What does it cost?

One free 1K preview split per day without an account, watermarked and not exportable. A full 2K split is 5 credits and includes both the PSD and the PNG ZIP, whatever the layer count. Credits come back automatically when a split fails. The 100-credit Starter pack is a one-time payment, not a subscription.

Is Image Layered free?

Yes — you can split one image per day at 1K without an account to preview the layers. Full-resolution 2K layers and PSD/PNG ZIP export use 5 credits per split.

What file do I get?

A layered Photoshop PSD where every element is its own named, transparent layer at its original position, or a ZIP of transparent PNGs plus a composite.

What images work best?

Posters, product shots, social graphics, characters and AI-generated images with clear subjects. Very busy photos can merge small details into one layer.

What happens if a split fails?

Credits are refunded automatically when a split fails or times out.

Are my images private?

Uploads are used only to create your layers and are not shown publicly or used for training.

Can I use the layers commercially?

Yes, you can use exported layers from your own images in commercial work.
